2020 Festival Press Release - New Location

Phoenix – December 10, 2019 - The Circle of Life at Steele Indian School Park in central Phoenix is the new location for one of the nation’s highest attended, two-day Japanese culture festivals, that is free of charge for all.

The family friendly event, which began as a small celebration at ASU in 1984, has outgrown Heritage Square Park in downtown and will be moving to the new location in central Phoenix to accommodate the increasing volume of people who come to enjoy the free Japanese festival.

The Arizona Matsuri festival has something for everyone. Attendees and enthusiast who dress up in traditional and modern styles, will come together as east meets west, to experience the land of the rising sun right here in the valley. The curious will not be disappointed with the Exhibitor displays and shoppers will have access to the streets of little Tokyo and authentic goods on offer by Merchandise Vendors. For those looking for something unique, will certainly find treasures at the Flea Market. Adults can relax within the Beer and Sake Garden and enjoy the likes of sushi rolls, ramen noodles and many other authentic dishes the Food Vendors will be offering.

This year’s festival theme is “Samurai”, members of the Japanese warrior caste who rose up to power much like the Phoenix bird, the valley’s own warrior in disguise, that opens its wings to embrace the diverse cultures that have settled here in Arizona.
